A letter from a Soldier to his Sweetheart

Dear Cassie:
Your letter came a few days ago and I was glad to here from you.
I had a letter from Muff yesterday, it is the second one I have had from her since I have written to her. I am ashamed of the way I handle my correspondence but I am busy from 5:40 o’clock in the morning, when I get up, until I go to bed. They keep me at something so I don’t have much time to write.
I have been about half on the sick list again. I have note been able to talk above a whisper fro about ten days now. I do not feel bad though I cough a good deal at night, otherwise it don’t bother me much.
It has been snowing and raining for the last week. It will snow an inch or two then rain for an hour or so and melt it all off then repeat the performance. It is the funniest weather I have ever seen. I wish it would get dry in this country sometime. I think this would be a good country to live in if it would dry off and stay that way for a while.
I do not know when I will be sent out of this camp but would not be surprised if we were shipped at any time now. They sent out about two thousand men a week ago they were sent some place in the east. I do not know where. I wish they would send us on to France. I am getting tired of this training all the time.
I had a letter from ???? a while back and he said Golden was very bad off and that she could not last very long. I sure feel sorry for him. And also for her. She was a nice little sister and I hate to see her so sick. Muff told me in her letter that ???? was going to bring her back home so I guess they have given up hope of her living much longer.
Well I will have to close for this time.
Much Love, Drew
Am enclosing another ???? picture. Will have some photos made one of these days and will send you one. D
Am also sending you a little ???? of Camp Lewis. A bullet picked up on the target range. Will send you one from France some day.
